Job Title: Epidemiologist (Program Evaluation)

Essential Functions
  • The Epidemiologist (Program Evaluation) will have Program Evaluation and Stakeholder Engagement Skills: Expertise in designing and conducting program evaluations, particularly for data technologies, using both qualitative and quantitative methods.
Any Special Qualifications
  • Experience with qualitative and mixed-methods research methods desirable, including design and analysis of surveys, moderation of focus groups, facilitation of interviews, qualitative data analysis, and program evaluation. Successful candidates will have the ability to effectively communicate findings in oral and written formats for non-technical audiences.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in epidemiology or its equivalent and three years of experience assisting in the design, conduct, and evaluation of epidemiologic studies and field investigations -OR- A doctoral degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in epidemiology or its equivalent
  • A valid Class C California Driver’s License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
Desired Skills
  • Program Evaluation and Stakeholder Engagement Skills: Expertise in designing and conducting program evaluations, particularly for data technologies, using both qualitative and quantitative methods. Qualitative methods including observations and shadowing, conducting key informant interviews, focus groups, and thematic analysis. Quantitative skills include the design, implementation, and analysis of surveys.
  • Data Technology Integration: Experience in applying research methods to evaluate and improve the integration and effectiveness of data technologies within public health programs, including leveraging human-centered design and user engagement principles.
  • Understanding of Disease and Program Epidemiology: In-depth knowledge of disease epidemiology and programmatic work at a state or local health department, with the ability to leverage this expertise for strategic decision-making about data technologies and their application in public health initiatives.
  • Strong Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze and synthesize data from multiple sources and provide actionable insights to support strategic decisions for data technology implementation.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication abilities, with a focus on clearly presenting evaluation findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Proven ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams, contributing to the successful implementation of technology-driven public health initiatives.
Work Environment
  • Planning, designing, implementing, evaluating, and managing health-related surveillance systems, original epidemiologic studies and field investigations; and will also provide consultation to departmental staff and external health partners on epidemiologic research methodology and design.
Work Schedule
(M-F 8-5, some OT, some weekends, etc)
  • Monday - Friday
  • 8am-4:30pm (8 hours per day/ 40 hours per week)
